Dear Friend,
My name is Fred Nicklaus and it’s important for you to know that you can help your kids become healthier
and feel great about themselves. It’s not rocket science but it does take some education and some work.
Our kids can be strong and healthy.
Alarming Facts About Childhood Obesity
- 10% of kids between ages two and five and 15% of young people between 6 and 19 are overweight.
- Kids who are overweight are at risk for type 2 diabetes, early heart disease, high blood pressure, sleep disorders, breathing difficulty.
- Kids who are overweight also have a higher risk of low self esteem, depression, learning disorders, and bullying.

Just recently I heard on the radio that doctors are now recommending cholesterol screenings for 2 year olds.
We currently have the highest rate of early childhood diabetes and early signs of heart disease in our
history. It’s a very scary statistic and something that all parents and educators should not only be
aware of but do something about.
When I travel to schools to do their P.E. classes I always ask the kids, “Who would like to be strong and healthy?”.
As expected, every hand in the class goes up, but upon further observation of the kids in the class it’s easy to
realize that many of the kids can use some help in becoming strong and healthy.
All Kids Like Being Strong & Healthy

All kids like the idea of being strong and healthy. The challenge for them is to find someone who can teach them
the secrets that they will need to know to accomplish their goal. Once they’ve found that person, be it parent,
coach, or teacher, they need help in implementing their own personal health strategy. This is a strategy that
teaches them about proper diet and exercise.
Here’s a few other health ideas:
- Someone in the house must effectively and consistently model the healthy behavior. Parents or siblings can
demonstrate effective eating and exercising habits. It’s hard for a young person to do the right thing if there
isn’t a certain amount of support in the household
- Talk to kids about the value of eating right and exercising often. Movement creates energy and that energy
can only be better with proper amounts of nutrition
- Teach kids how to be patient and happy with small results. Change takes a while. Help kids understand that
results are not immediate but the journey to health is rewarding and worthwhile
It’s my goal to bring you the very best in health and fitness ideas for your kids. Over the past 30 plus years I
have owned and operated my own martial arts schools in La Crosse and Onalaska, Wisconsin. During that time I have
had the good fortune to win a martial arts national championship and I’ve trained others to become national and
world champions. I’ve had the ability to test and learn much that has lead to a healthy lifestyle for myself and
my students. I’d like to share some of those proven ideas with you.
